A day in Orvieto

An hour and a half from Rome, the town of Orvieto sits in the heart of tufa cliffs in Umbria.  The town has developed over the last three thousand years and today it is home to one of the most magnificent cathedrals in Italy.

We spent the day touring the city, starting with the underground city of Orvieto.  The town is set upon a series of 12,000 caves and on a tour of “Orvieto Underground” we had the opportunity to make our way through the winding cave system that developed over the last 2500 years.

At the end of the tour, we climbed up a narrow staircase into the sunlight.  After being underground for an hour, the surrounding Umbrian countryside looked particularly stunning.   We spent the afternoon exploring the medieval town and stopped to buy pasta and wine.  We topped off the day with a classic Italian meal and left the peaceful Orvieto to head back to the craziness of Rome.

Happy Backpackers

The most fun, exciting, educational, and craziest weekend I had during my semester abroad. You definitely get the maximum bang for your buck with WSA. WSA provided me with an unbelieveable weekend in Budapest. After hearing from my friends about their amazing experiences on WSA trips, I had to see what all the hype was about. I chose to take part in a WSA weekend in Budapest, and I loved every minute of it. The guide, Bogi, was the best! WSA is the perfect blend of an educational/tourist expereince while also allowing for sites off the beaten path as well as kickass nightlife. You won't regret a trip with WSA.
